Some people will say they “just don’t feel like themselves anymore”.
In all cases there are similar possible causative factors that would need investigating and addressing. These include assessing:
Methylation– methylation has the ability to alter hormone and neurotransmitter production and clearance. A genetic variation of the MTHFR gene is known to alter folate metabolism and the methylation pathway. Assessing this gene and methylation co-factors is important.
Nutrient status– nutrients are the building blocks of neurotransmitters. Your body NEEDS the nutrients. Certain nutrients are needed in a very high amount for neurotransmitter production.
Gut function– with 90% of serotonin made in the gut it makes sense to assess the gut. There is a connection between the gut and brain that may be altered by certain bacterias that reside in the gut, thus assessing the levels of these is important when we are addressing any condition where neurotransmitters are in question
Pyroluria- a metabolic condition where the person produces excess pyrroles. These pyrroles act like magnets and have a high affinity for nutrients that are needed to make your neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are important for balancing mood. These are just a few of the areas that we would address.
